Developed by ARMA, this guide aligns with the Grade 4 science curriculum, providing answers to the guiding question of 'How can materials be managed safely?', but some of the activities can be suitable for older or younger students. It features six interactive learning resources and activities that are designed to help students explore how different materials are recycled. Each activity starts with a teaching moment and can typically be completed within one class period, though some may extend beyond the classroom.
This guide complements other recycling education resources, reinforcing the principles of reducing, reusing, and recycling, with a specific focus on materials that go beyond the blue bin.
We hope this resource helps you empower students to inspire a future without waste in others and make a lasting impact on our environment.
Broken up into six learning resources, this guide provides a clearly defined purpose, background, history, procedure, resources, and activity sheets,
These five presentation decks align with the learning resources to aid you in teaching the students.
Please note that the presentations have been compressed to reduce download size.
The activity sheets are included in the Teacher’s Resource Guide, but you can download them separately below to make printing easier.
The Electronics Fundraising Grant allows schools, non-profits, and community groups to increase recycling awareness and raise funds while making it easier for Albertans to recycle their old electronics. Working with registered electronics processors, organizations would encourage their community to bring old electronics for collection. The organization then receives money per item and by weight from ARMA.
