Tell Albertans about your business and what it does.

SCRI specializes in the recycling of computers (CPU), televisions, laptops, and printers, though we can safely recycle many other products. Our expertise in recycling allows us to offer genuine recycling solutions. Shanked Computer Recycling is an audited and approved recycler with the Alberta Recycling Management Authority, having obtained COR (Certificate of Recognition), ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 9001:2015 certification.

We provide secure data destruction, environmentally friendly recycling, and the recovery of various electronic components from electronic products we collect from government agencies, institutions, commercial, and industrial companies. We also service many municipal collection sites. Our goal is to create a service that is free and easy to use so everyone can participate in electronic recycling, thereby reducing our footprint bit by bit.

We offer free pickup for businesses and institutions and do not charge for any electronic waste materials we accept. We aim to inspire everyone to recycle obsolete TVs, computers, servers, copiers, and other electronics rather than sending them to landfills.

Our aim is to be the optimal electronic recycling company respected for our convenient and friendly service, competence, safety, security, environmental stewardship, and integrity.

What areas of the province do you service?

We service Edmonton, Calgary, and all over Alberta.

What makes your business unique?

We process as much as possible in-house, creating the maximum number of jobs in Alberta. We are equipped to move a fully loaded sea can from anywhere in Alberta. Additionally, we operate a drop-off location at the Currie Barracks in Calgary, open 7 days a week, closing only on Christmas and New Year. We have been at the Currie Barracks since 2010.

If there was something that Albertans could do to make recycling these materials easier, what would it be?

To support the increased usage of recycled materials in recycling.

What is one thing people would be surprised to learn about your business or about the recycling process of the materials you handle?

It is very labour-intensive to sort the e-waste materials and remove all the batteries before further processing.

Is there anything else you would like Albertans to know about your business?

We are a private business with a social conscience and care about our workers. Even when it’s not required, we conduct annual health tests to make sure our employees are healthy.
