Grant Programs

Inspiring a future without waste means creating accessible and convenient ways to participate in our recycling programs. Through grants, ARMA helps support our community recycle electronics, paint, tires, and used oil materials.

Beyond-The-Bin Recycling Roundup Grant

The Beyond-The-Bin Recycling Roundup Grant (formerly the Municipal Recycling Roundup Grant) provides funding on a matching basis to cover the costs associated with hosting a Recycling Roundup event, including advertising, related expenses, and fees for electronics and paint material collection. Through this Grant, ARMA supports communities in creating convenient and accessible recycling opportunities close to home. 

How to Apply

To be eligible for this Grant, you must be one of the following:

  • Municipality
  • Regional Waste Authority/Commission
  • First Nations or Métis Settlement within the Province of Alberta

Used Oil Materials Support Grant

ARMA’s Used Oil Materials Support Grant is designed to improve the management of used oil, oil filters, and empty oil containers at landfills, transfer stations, and recycling depots. This will help safely and securely store used oil materials collected at sites while improving access to used oil material recycling in Alberta. 

How to Apply

To qualify for this grant, you must be a registered used oil collection site, including: 

  • Municipalities 
  • Regional Waste Authorities/Commissions 
  • First Nations and Métis Settlements within the Province of Alberta 

Funding is available for the development and delivery of used oil collection infrastructure and is payable based on the actual expenses incurred by the Applicant in completing the project, as evidenced by receipts and invoices provided by the applicant to ARMA. 

The level of funding will be determined on a case-by-case basis, up to a maximum of $15,000 per applicant site—subject to the available budget—and is provided on a 50/50 matching basis for eligible expenses.

Electronics Recycling Roundup Grant

The Electronics Recycling Roundup Grant allows schools, non-profits, and community groups to increase recycling awareness and raise funds while making it easier for Albertans to recycle their old electronics. Working with registered electronics processors, organizations would encourage their community to bring old electronics for collection. The organization then receives money by weight.

How to Apply

To qualify for this grant, you must be a registered charity or non-profit organization operating in Alberta, including:

  • Schools or school-based groups (K-12: post-secondary)
  • Community leagues and associations
  • Amateur sports associations or teams

Scouts or Girl Guides

  • 4-H Alberta clubs
  • Churches or religious organizations
  • First Nations, Métis communities and Indigenous-serving organizations

Businesses can also apply if they are helping raise money for a registered charity or non-profit in Alberta. If you’re unsure if your organization qualifies, contact us at grants@albertarecycling.ca

The level of funding received is determined based on the weight of collected electronics. The funding rate is $500.00 per metric tonne, based on the net eligible weight of electronic materials.

Tire Recycling Demonstration Grant

This Grant provides funding to Alberta municipalities, Indigenous communities, community organizations, and other non‐profit groups to help purchase recycled tire products made from Alberta’s eligible scrap tires for use in public projects.

How to Apply

To qualify for this grant your project must use recycled tire materials for public-facing projects, including:

  • Municipalities
  • Regional Waste Authorities
  • Commissions First Nations and Métis Settlements within Alberta

Funding is available for eligible expenses at 50% of the final invoice up to $30,000, and is provided on a 50/50 matching basis for eligible costs. Reimbursement is based on actual expenses, supported by receipts and invoices.

Registered Electronics Processor Technology Upgrade Grant

This grant provides funding to registered electronics processors to enhance end-of-life (EOL) electronics processing capabilities in Alberta. The objectives of this funding program are to:

  • Improve the quality and quantity of recycled materials for EOL electronics markets.
  • Increase the adoption of advanced technology to enhance electronics processing capabilities and efficiencies.
  • Support safe workplaces through the acquisition of new equipment for processing eligible Alberta EOL electronics.

How to Apply 

To qualify, applicants must be registered electronics processors who have met program requirements for at least two years. Eligible funding activities include:

  • Upgrading existing recycling equipment or acquiring new processing equipment to improve the marketability of commodities for local and approved markets.
  • Developing or acquiring new technology to enhance efficiencies and reduce processing costs.
  • Acquiring equipment that supports worker health and safety while increasing processing efficiency.

Funding is available on a 50/50 matching basis for eligible expenses, up to a maximum of $250,000 per applicant per year, subject to the available budget. Reimbursement is based on actual expenses incurred, as evidenced by receipts and invoices submitted to ARMA.

Eligible Registered Electronics Processors will be notified when this grant is available and will be provided details on how to apply.
