Dr. Gabrielle Betts

Vice President, Extended Producer Responsibility

Gabrielle has been with ARMA for two years, bringing over 17 years of experience in driving systemic change, building high-performing teams, and creating lasting impact across diverse sectors. Currently, she leads the development and operationalization of Alberta's first Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system, which successfully launched on April 1, 2025. This leadership role reflects her deep commitment to advancing sustainability initiatives and navigating complex regulatory environments.

Gabrielle is widely recognized for her expertise in strategic vision & execution, partnership & stakeholder engagement, and governance & risk management. Throughout her career, she has built a strong reputation for guiding organizations through complex regulatory landscapes, ensuring their strategies align with evolving industry standards. Her leadership ensures initiatives are not only visionary but also practical and sustainable, positioning organizations for long-term success.

Over the years, Gabrielle has successfully led large-scale initiatives in high-stakes environments, driving organizational growth, financial sustainability, and operational efficiency. Her ability to develop and execute strategic plans has been key to her success, particularly in building strong, productive relationships with government, industry, and community stakeholders to expand opportunities and achieve shared goals. Her collaborative leadership approach has consistently delivered impactful outcomes.

With a solid foundation in operational management, Gabrielle excels in overseeing cross-functional teams, managing budgets, and ensuring long-term organizational sustainability. She is particularly skilled in managing risk, ensuring compliance, and making data-driven decisions that promote resilience within organizations. Her expertise in operational efficiency and governance has been instrumental in guiding her teams toward achieving both immediate and long-term goals.

Gabrielle holds a PhD in Political Science and Political Economy from Carleton University, along with a Master’s and Bachelor’s in Political Science from the University of Alberta. Additionally, she holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation and an Executive Coaching Certification, further enhancing her ability to lead and mentor in complex organizational settings.

Outside of her professional responsibilities, Gabrielle is deeply committed to community leadership. She currently serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Association of Alberta Sexual Assault Services (AASAS), contributing her skills and expertise to support vital community programs and initiatives.
